The Deep South Tour offers the following highlights:
We will dive the following atolls
The very southern part of Maldives is travelled by us when the weather is absolutely fine, which is from mid-January to mid-April at the latest. The sea routes across the open ocean are too long to risk surprises. The trip from Male to the southern end of the Maldives, the Addu Atoll and vice versa, takes 2 weeks in the style of our safaris. Less would be a race and not a dive cruise. We travel there or back on a domestic flight.
The Huvadu Atoll (bureaucratically Gaaf Alif and Gaaf Dhaal) is channel diving at its finest. That means a lot of current and, as a result, a lot of fish. Huvadu has the highest density of sharks in the Maldives, including quite rare species. What we know for know ;).
Fuvahmulah Island lies exposed to the forces of the open ocean between Huvadu and Addu. There are no anchorages, the port is far too small, the currents are strong. All in all not an easy area. An exception is the protected "Tiger Harbour", where several tiger sharks are always feeding - and at a maximum of 10 meters. Addu Atoll has good manta ray sites, the most beautiful reefs and the Maldives' only authentic wreck, the tanker British Loyalty, torpedoed by U-183 in March 1944.
Sometimes we offer tours from Addu to Fuvamulah, on to Huvadu and back to Addu. Arrival and departure by domestic flight. Duration between 7 and 10 days
Yearly we offer trips from Addu to Fuvamulah, on to Huvadu and back to Addu. Arrival and departure by domestic flight. Duration between 7 and 10 days
Best travel time
The Tiger Harbor Tour operates only during the Northeast Monsoon from December to April. Long crossings with low waves are likely at this time of year.
Tiger sharks can be seen off Fuvahmulah island all year round. Since the island has an airport, you can also dive with tiger sharks in the southeast monsoon via a local dive center.
